Spirit Unbroken

Writer’s Digest recently reviewed Spirit Unbroken: The Two Sides of Love, by Rick and Alice Garlock, with the following praise:

“Great cover design and overall package. It is very polished and professional. I liked the set-up of the book, particularly how you let the story unfold in both the past and present. Good job in telling a very difficult story. You have a great writing voice! Excellent work with grammar and proofreading.”

Congrats to Rick and Alice!

9781592994342_cov.inddA group of dads–and Inkwater Press authors–who meet every Tuesday morning to discuss the grief of losing children were featured on the ABC evening news in Indianapolis.

Last month, members of The Dads Group jointly published a collection of their stories of grief and loss. Tuesday Mornings With the Dads, published by Inkwater Press, was their way of reaching out to other dads across the country.

“We sometimes say it’s a group we didn’t want to join, but were grateful that it’s here,” member Adolf Hansen said in the interview.

The group meets over coffee and acts as an informal support network for dads whose children have died. They can be contacted at www.tuesdayswiththedads.org.

9781592993444_cover.inddDave Fox, author of Globejotting: How to Write Extraordinary Travel Journals (and still have time to enjoy your trip!), was featured on the public radio show “Travel with Rick Steves.” The interview, the third segment of an hour-long show, will air in several markets throughout the week. Listen to the full show.

Globejotting is available from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and InkwaterBooks.com.

barrowscookbookcopyJohn Barrows, co-author of the Inkwater title How I Taught My Brother to Cook, was interviewed for The Oregonian’s “Taste” column Sunday, Aug. 30. The article included his mother’s recipe for “Cagoots,” an easy, peasant-style summer vegetable stew.

“I’ve always wanted to write a cookbook, and I wanted to create one that gave home cooks permission to stop following recipes word for word,” Barrows said in the interview.

“I think a lot of people lack confidence and are afraid of making mistakes. They think cooking is a science, when it’s actually just a big, fun experiment that you get to eat at the end.”

9781592994236_cov_COLE.inddBarry Smith, Kansas finance professor and author of Only Milo, was interviewed in the Emporia Gazette about his quirky thriller, which pokes fun at the publishing industry:

“Sounds like a stretch, right? Business professor during the day, murder mystery writer at night?” the reporter writes.

Only Milo is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Two Inkwater Press authors were featured on Erik Hastings’ The Travel Show
this month. The weekly radio show airs Sundays on WABC News Talk Radio.

alex_not_redAfrica Trek author Alexandre Poussin appeared on CNN today in a news feature about the 120th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower.

Reporter Jim Bittermann interviewed Alexandre about his experiences climbing the tower – not the legal, customary way, but the daring and illegal way, scaling the outside of the tower to hang from its top girders.

“There are ultimate seconds in your lifetime that are engraved in your soul forever,” Alexandre said in the CNN report.

Alexandre, who lives in France, has climbed the Eiffel Tower 38 times, even posing for magazine pictures at the top. See Alexandre Poussin’s interview on CNN.

Stephanie Snowe (Meeting Mr. Wrong:The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle) continues to offer hilarious advice painfully derived from her own dating experiences (now safely in the past). In addition to an upcoming book signing on Thursday, May 14th at 7 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble in Greenville, SC,  Stephanie also was interviewed for a March 27th article published on mixer.com, featuring her 10 tips for the sometimes treacherous local dating scene.

1. If you are married, stop dating other people. I’m not kidding about this. Stop it. Once you say “I do” to one person, you stop saying “I will” to everyone else. Besides, adultery is one of the seven deadly sins or some crap. Okay, not really. BUT IT SHOULD BE.
